Terpenes

What Are Terpenes?

Terpenes are responsible for the aroma of different cannabis strains; they are secreted in the same glands that produce cannabinoids. Terpenes developed to repel predators and lure pollinators. There are many factors that influence a plant’s development of terpenes, including climate, weather, age and maturation, fertilizers, soil type, and the time of day. There are over 100 terpenes that have been identified to this day.

The Entourage Effect

The effect profile of any given terpene may change in the presence of other compounds in a phenomenon known as the entourage effect. Upon smoking or vaping cannabis, the body takes in hundreds of botanical compounds, each one arriving with unique effects and benefits and their behavior may change in the presence of other compounds.
